Meet Mary

Mary Franson was born and raised in the rural area of Saginaw near Duluth. She grew up on an 80-acre hobby farm and graduated from AlBrook High School. After high school she continued her education at the University of Minnesota – Duluth. Mary worked her way through college and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and a minor in Humanities.

Mary lives in Alexandria with her three children: Helena (14), Karl (7), and Kahllin (5). She attends Alexandria Covenant Church. In her down time, she enjoys playing dominoes, reading, scrapbooking and being outside, and laughing.

Prior to her election, Mary was employed as a Credit Representative with AT&T, where she was treasurer and president of a non-profit business resource group called Women of AT&T. Mary has also been a licensed childcare provider. Mary passionately believes children are our future and to be able to have a positive influence on them has been a wonderful and rewarding experience.

In 2010, having never sought political office before, Mary ran for and won election as State Representative in a three-way race, defeating her closest opponent by over 16 percent. Mary’s goal has been to bring a citizen-inspired, common-sense approach to reducing the size, scope and reach of government.
